Yass Valley Council, in partnership with Southern Tablelands Arts (STA), has unveiled a new exhibition space for regional artists to showcase their work at Yass Valley Library.

Renowned glass sculptor and Yass Valley resident, Peter Crisp OAM, is the first artist to exhibit in the STA Box Gallery.

“The STA Box Gallery is a unique, glass-covered plinth that will enable Yass Valley residents to view small-to-medium artworks from local and regional artists,” said STA Executive Director Rose Marin.

The STA Box Gallery is located in the foyer of Yass Valley Library and Mr Crisp’s exhibition features significant pieces from across his career, including a plate from the commission he presented to the Prince of Wales.

Mr Crisp’s work is prized across the globe, and this is a unique opportunity to see his masterful glass creations in Yass anytime the library is open.

“Every STA Box Gallery exhibition will be complemented by a digital exhibition at the STA Gallery, giving context around the works and creator,” said Ms Marin.

“You can view this online component of the exhibition anytime on the STA website: www.southerntablelandsarts.com.au/sta-box-gallery-yass/.”

Yass Valley Council’s Director of Corporate and Community, Lynette Safranek, said the STA Box Gallery is another fantastic reason to visit Yass Valley Library.

“We are thrilled to have a permanent exhibition space that will stimulate the imaginations of library visitors and celebrate local artists,” said Mrs Safranek.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for more of our residents to experience internationally-acclaimed art without having to travel far. I highly recommend viewing Peter Crisp’s exhibition this spring. This first display sets the benchmark for more exciting artworks to come.”

The STA Box Gallery will feature a new exhibition every season. Artists and creatives interested to know more are encouraged to contact STA on 0427 938 110.
