The Country Mayors Association of NSW held a Rural Health Forum on 26th May 2022 following the tabling in NSW Parliament of the “Legislative Council Inquiry into Health Outcomes and Access to Health and Hospital Services in Rural, Regional and Remote NSW” report on 5th May 2022. The report makes 22 findings and 41 recommendations, and the State Government has six months to consider its response.

The Country Mayors Association endorsed the findings and recommendations of the Parliamentary Inquiry into health and hospital services in rural NSW.

Yass Valley Council noted the report and requested the Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, support the inquiry’s findings and recommendations at its meeting on the 26th May.

In addition, Yass Valley Council unanimously supported a motion from Cr Cayla Pothan to both support the findings and recommendations and canvass support through the Canberra Region Joint Organisation and others by writing to the Prime Minister, Federal Health Minister etc., seeking support for the findings and all 44 recommendations.

Speaking of the recommendations, Mayor Allan McGrath said “It is pretty obvious to everyone residing in rural and regional areas that health and hospital services are below standard and health service staff struggle every day to provide minimum services that are far below that available to those living in the city.”
