Time-to-Put-the-Flannelette-Sheets-On

Recent early morning fog heralds autumn and hints at winter, so it’s time to change our sheets to flannelette to help keep us cosy and warm at night. Some of us were brought up as children with colourful striped flannelette sheets that seemed to last for years. These days though, it can be difficult to know what constitutes quality flannelette.

In contrast to cotton sheet sets, thread count is not an indicator of quality for flannelette sheets. For flannelette sheets, the softness and quality will depend on weight. There are two ways that the weight will be shown, either in ounces or grams. Flannelette sheets with a fabric rating of 170 GSM or higher, or at least five ounces, are long lasting and warm.

When it comes to flannelette sheets, a tighter weave means higher quality colours and patterns. If you buy colourful flannelette sheets with a pattern and a low weight, they may fade with wear and washing. For long-lasting colours and patterns, choose flannelette sheets that have yarn-dyed fibres and a high weight.

To keep fibres soft and prevent colours from fading, wash your flannelette sheets with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Thoroughly dry the sheets on the line or in the dryer on a low-heat setting to keep the fabric soft and reduce pilling.

Flannelette sheets have a variety of price points, so select a set that is the best value within your budget. Cheaper sheets may seem like a good idea in the moment, but they may not withstand the years of use you need.
