Time To Get Lawns Under Control

As the temperature rises, so does grass and vegetation, which can be a potential fire hazard and breeding ground for vermin.

Yass Valley experienced one of the wettest winters on record in 2021 and Yass Valley Council’s Environmental Services Team has noticed a large number of overgrown properties in recent months.

“Council is aware that many owners have been unable to attend their properties due to the lockdowns, however, it’s important that owners regularly check their properties for the build-up of long grass and vegetation,” said Yass Valley Council’s Manager Environmental Services, Mark Livermore.

“We are anticipating a hot summer and potentially high fire risks. Overgrown properties can also harbour vermin, so now is an important time to be checking vacant blocks and backyards to keep yourself, your neighbours and your community safe.”

If property owners need assistance or more information, they can contact Yass Valley Council’s Environmental Services Division on 6226 1477.

Further information on preparing your property for a bush fire can be found on the NSW Rural Fire Service website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.
