Are you into knitting and/or sewing? If so, please read on.

Sands is an Australian organisation that assists parents when pregnancy has ended due to miscarriage, or their baby has died – whether recently or many years ago. In 2020 Sands merged with Red Nose Australia and is now Australia’s leading organisation working both to prevent babies and young children dying suddenly and unexpectedly, and providing support services for families following the tragic death of their baby or child during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.

Sands recently put out an urgent call for talented knitters, sewing enthusiasts and pattern makers to assist with its Treasured Babies program. This program provides clothing and appropriately sized coffins for stillborn babies or babies who have died close to birth. These items bring some comfort and alleviate some of the stress at an all-consuming, heartbreaking time, and parents often treasure the items provided.

Sands is always looking for volunteer sewers and knitters, as well as donations of material. At the moment, it would like assistance with both sewing and knitting patterns. If you're a pattern maker and wanting to volunteer, send follow the link for more information about how you can help: www.rednose.org.au/page/treasured-babies

Sands’ support line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 1300 072 637.
