Safety upgrades began on the Hume Highway and Yass Valley Way intersection on Wednesday 16th June and will continue between 7am and 6pm weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. It is anticipated to be completed by late July, weather permitting.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the work funded through the Network and Safety Program will involve extending the deceleration exit lane by 100 metres to reduce the risk of crashes.

“There were 4 crashes at this intersection over a 5-year period, with motorists crashing into guard rails as they exited the highway,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“This work will provide a longer distance for motorists to slow down and exist safely.

“The upgrades will also include lane widening, signage installation and line marking and will generate 15 local jobs.”

Lane closures and a 40 km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and to follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
