Researching Convict Ancestors in NSW and Tasmania

Finding out that you have a convict ancestor is an exciting discovery, not only because they are considered ‘Australian royalty’, but also because of the wealth of convict records that catalogue everything from the offence for which they were tried, to their height and eye colour. But moving beyond shipping indents, tickets of leave, certificates of freedom and pardons, what else can be discovered from less well-utilised sources including court and gaol records, official correspondence, and government gazettes? And how can these records be combined with civil records and newspaper reports to produce a more accurate and complete picture of the life of your convict ancestor?

The Queensland Family History Society is hosting a session presented by historian, Jan Richardson, about researching our NSW and Tasmanian convict ancestors. The session will be conducted via Zoom, and participants are asked to register with Eventbrite: Researching convict ancestors: Delving into NSW and Tasmanian records Tickets, Fri 26/02/2021 at 10:00 am | Eventbrite

The session will be conducted on Friday, 26th February 2021, from 11:00am – 12:30pm AEDT. Ticket prices are either $15 or $25 depending on membership status.
