NSW Wine Industry Association (NSW WIA) is urging wine growers to familiarise themselves with the NSW Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) review of the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) and agitate for change.
The EPA’s discussion paper, “Driving NSW’s Circular Economy”, proposes including wine bottles in the CDS going forward.
The NSW Wine Industry Association opposes the inclusion for two reasons:
1. As per the data provided in the paper, this option is not the best option if the genuine desire is to recycle more glass.
2. There will be an unrecoverable cost to the wine industry (both financial and also administrative burden).
The EPA has arranged consultation sessions and plans to have consultations finalised by the 2nd December 2022.
