NSW Wine Industry to Trial New Technology

The NSW wine industry and the NSW Department of Primary Industries have initiated a pilot project involving the use of a digital check-in-out system to improve the tracking of biosecurity vectors and threats in the wine sector.

The pilot is valued at over $1m and is being supported by a collaboration between NSW Wine, NSW DPI, Southern NSW Innovation Hub, and commercial technology partner Onside Intelligence.

The pilot was launched in the Canberra and Tumbarumba wine regions a fortnight ago, and involves collecting movement data of biosecurity threat vectors for a period of seven months starting this spring. This data will be used to simulate a series of biosecurity outbreaks for Phylloxera and Xylella to ascertain if the technology will offer clear benefits to industry and biosecurity agencies in managing and responding to outbreaks and threats, reducing risks and minimising any potential impacts.
