Local Wines Win Gold in the 2021 NSW Wine Awards

The medal winning wines of the 2021 International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney NSW Wine Awards have been announced, raising the anticipation of who will be awarded the top trophies and named the best wine in NSW at the 26th annual NSW Wine Awards Presentation Luncheon on 10th December 2021.

The judging took place at International Convention Centre Sydney on 23rd to 25th November, when 16 expert wine judges tasted for three days, awarding 84 wines with a prestigious gold medal. The gold medal tally was slightly up on last year highlighting some great 2021 whites and beautiful reds from 2019 in particular.

Amongst the Gold Award winners were the following local wineries:

  • Riesling: Shaw Wines for Shaw Wines 2021 Estate Riesling. Mount Majura Vineyard for Mount Majura Vineyard 2021 Riesling,
  • Current Chardonnay: Collector Wines for Collector 2019 Tiger Tiger Chardonnay
  • Current Shiraz: Lerida Estate for Lerida Estate Canberra District Shiraz 2019, Lerida Estate 2019 Single Vineyard Murrumbateman Shiraz Viognier, and Lerida Estate Cullerin 2019 Shiraz. Shaw Wines for Shaw Wines 2019 Estate Shiraz. Eden Road Wine Company Pty Ltd for Eden Road 2019 Cullarin Block 71 Syrah.
  • Current Cabernet Sauvignon: Shaw Wines for Shaw Wines 2019 Winemakers Selection Cabernet Sauvignon and Shaw Wines 2018 Reserve Merriman Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Chair of Judges, Mr Nick Spencer said, “[This year] marks my seventh year judging at the NSW wine Awards and my first year with the privilege of Chairing the show. Over the course of nearly a decade being involved in the show, what has stood out to me is the incredible quality and consistency of the wines, which has grown year on year - reflecting the tremendous investment and efforts of skilled winemakers and viticulturists in NSW.

“A testament to this quality and consistency was the number of times during the show this year that it was almost impossible to separate two or three exceptional wines to determine the ‘wine of class’. We know NSW produces wines that are up there with some of the best in the world, but this year really highlighted that exceptional quality across regions, varietals and style,” Mr Spencer said.

There’s not much time to book yourself a ticket to the NSW Wine Awards Presentation Luncheon on 10th December 2021, but here’s the link to the tickets: https://nswwine.com.au/pages/buy-tickets

Good luck to all our local Gold Award winners and congratulations to those that won Silver and Bronze!
