International-Womens-Day

International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s and is an occasion to stop and consider women’s equality and emancipation in our society. Many from a younger generation may feel that “all the battles have been won for women” while many feminists from the 1970s know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. However, the unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, which is on the 8th March 2022, is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.

Regional Development Australia Southern Inland (RDASI) is hosting its second International Women's Day lunch from 11am to 2pm on the 8th March at The Royal Hotel in Queanbeyan.

The group has an exceptional panel of regional leaders presenting at the event, including Chair Rowena Abbey and Allison Harker, Chair of Local Land Services NSW. The discussion this year will be focussed on smashing the glass ceiling and disintegrating bias.

Profit from the event will be going to Dignity, a charity focussed on homelessness in our region.
