Have you heard of the saying, “You’ve got to be in it, to win it”? Well, the same goes for inputting into important decisions that affect your town: you need to see what the proposed changes are, and speak up if you can see a better way of doing things or a problem.

Yass Valley Council has commenced planning to enhance the main streets of Yass, Bookham and Wee Jasper and is inviting the public to have its say until the end of August.

The draft Yass, Bookham and Wee Jasper Main Street Masterplans were developed in close consultation with their respective communities and endorsed at Council’s Ordinary Meeting in July.

The masterplans aim to enhance the main streets through improved seating, lighting, tree plantings, parking, art, and so much more. They have considered all issues, from outdoor seating areas to pedestrian and cycle links to the main streets.

Strategic Planning Manager Liz Makin said these plans will enable Council and community groups to secure funding for the identified projects.

“Consultants Sala4D and Council staff have listened and acknowledged the Yass community’s desire for their main street to be more pedestrian friendly and attractive to residents and visitors alike,” said Mrs Makin.

“The Bookham and Wee Jasper communities want to improve their existing community halls and recreational areas for local residents, while also providing increased outdoor and nature-based activities to support tourism.”

The draft Yass, Bookham and Wee Jasper Main Street Masterplans will be on public exhibition on Council’s website until 5pm on Wednesday, 31st August. Available to view are the detailed drawings, highlighting where the proposed upgrades will go, concept images and colour schemes.
