The local Greens are standing a ticket of the following five active community members in the Local Government elections on the 4th September: Adrian Cameron (Yass), Saan Ecker (Yass River), Iain Fyfe (Gundaroo), Tanya Cullen (Binalong) and Steve Crabb (Murrumbateman).

“We are as passionate about supporting our local community as we are about protecting and enhancing our local environment,” said Adrian Cameron, lead Greens candidate for Yass Valley Council.

“We know people are worried about the rapid development of Gundaroo and Murrumbateman, for example, where people feel impacts on their local amenity, services and green spaces,” said Adrian.

“We must improve our urban planning to sensibly manage growth and provide the services and public spaces people want and need. We have to invest in roads and bridges, but public spaces like Comur Street, Yass and the Soldiers Memorial Hall are looking tired and need investment, too. Our rural streetscapes and landscapes are our key assets and we need to enhance them to attract business, tourism and residents” Adrian said.

Saan Ecker added, “We also need practical environmental action and I believe the Council must provide leadership. We can help people reduce their impacts on the environment by improving our waste management, recycling and re-use facilities and services. Clean energy and carbon neutrality can be embedded in the new Civic Centre design, helping to reduce energy costs now and into the future.

“And if we’re going to improve our water supply, the health of the Yass River and its broader catchment area needs to be considered,” she concluded.

Each member of the Greens team is already actively contributing to the Yass Valley community as volunteers with organisations including the Rural Fire Service, Landcare, community transport and the local historical society.
