Join the State Library of NSW online for a fascinating exploration of Kate Fullagar’s book The Warrior, the Voyager, and the Artist: Three Lives in an Age of Empire, winner of the NSW Premier’s Prize for General History in 2020.

The Warrior, the Voyager, and the Artist tells the story of three interconnected eighteenth-century lives — Joshua Reynolds and two Indigenous men, the Cherokee Ostenaco and the Ra‘iatean Mai, and offers a fresh account of the British empire and its intrusion into Indigenous societies.

Kate Fullagar is Professor of History at the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences, Australian Catholic University, where she specialises in the history of the eighteenth-century world, particularly the British Empire and the many indigenous societies it encountered.
