The 99th Annual Conference of the Country Women’s Association of NSW (CWA) in Bega in early May has been hailed as a big success by CWA members and the Bega Valley community.

CWA members attended an Ecumenical Service at the Bega Showground Pavilion on the first day of the Conference. During the service, $943 was collected and will be donated to the Women’s Resource Centre in Bega. The Bega CWA Branch supports the Women’s Resource Centre in Bega, a community service which aims to combat gender-based violence and inequality.

In terms of the success of the Conference, Helen Galton, President of the local organising committee said, “We are so proud of successfully delivering the CWA of NSW State Conference in Bega and would like to thank our whole community for their support throughout the Conference.”

The conference committee particularly thanked Pambula and Bega branches of Bendigo Bank, who were key financial supporters, and hosted a ‘Welcome to Bega’ Reception at the Civic Centre for visiting CWA officials. Committee Treasurer Alison Jenkins said “The generous support of our local Bendigo Bank branches in Pambula and Bega was gratefully received and was a wonderful community partnership.”

Last week was National Volunteer Week with the theme of Recognise, Reconnect, Reimagine. The Bega local organising committee acknowledged all the volunteers who contributed to making the Conference a success. Thanks was expressed to the CWA Far South Coast Group volunteers, Tathra Lions for their heavy lifting, Bega Rotary for use of their 101 trestle tables, Four Winds for loan of their stage, Cobargo Scouts who managed the parking, Bega Guides for helping with recycling, and all the other community volunteers.
