CWA Centenary 2022

Did you know that the very first branch of the County Women’s Association (CWA) NSW branch opened in Crookwell on the 26th April 1922?

This means that next year is promising to be very auspicious for CWA NSW because it is the celebration of this important organisation’s centenary.

Since its inception, the aim of the organisation has been to lobby for improvements to conditions for country women and children. Arguably one of the most profound impacts of the organisation across Australia was the establishment of Baby Health Clinics, which provided mothers of infants with practical, evidence-based advice and support. This contributed to a rapid reduction in overall death rates among 0–4 year-olds by around 95% over the 20th century, from 2,604 and 2,214 deaths per 100,000 males and females respectively in 1907, to 134 and 110 deaths per 100,000 in 2000 (figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2006).

To celebrate and promote the work of CWA in NSW over the past 100 years the organisation is planning a bumper 2022 CWA of NSW Conference. To help raise funds for the Conference, a monster raffle is taking place with the first prize being $2,000, second prize being $1,000, third prize being $500, and fourth prize being $250. The raffle closes on the 4th of May 2022 and will be drawn at 1pm that day.
