Gunning-Connect

Just 38.1 kilometres from Yass lies the township of Gunning. According to the 2021 census, there are 820 people living in and around the town, and there is excitement in the community with the news that Round Five of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund has resulted in a $126,000 funding boost for Connect@Gunning Station.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman met with Southern Tablelands Arts last week and said, “Connect@Gunning Station will be a magnet for cultural experiences and opportunities in the region as well as a hub within the Gunning community.

“I am looking forward to the exhibitions, heritage displays, programs, events, workshops, community meetings and gatherings that will be held when restoration of the station is complete and Connect@Gunning is open – very soon” Mrs Tuckerman said.

Southern Tablelands Arts Executive Director Rose Marin, welcomed the funding.

“Achieving this critical funding will ensure the success of the Connect@Gunning project. With this funding Southern Tablelands Arts will provide opportunities for people to learn and share skills, exhibit works of art and most importantly to Connect. The funding will provide programs and employment and see the Gunning Station bloom into life for everyone to enjoy,” Ms Marin said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said in the past five years the Stronger Country Communities Fund had delivered more than 2,000 grassroots projects, benefitting every Local Government Area in regional NSW.

“We all know how important it is for communities to have great places to come together to build social connections and boost their wellbeing. It’s the little things that make a big difference to the way we all work, live, play and do business,” Mr Toole said.
