The last few years have been tough for so many of us, and more than ever Christmas represents a time of togetherness and cheer. If posts on social media are correct, there are Christmas trees and decorations already going up, so it’s welcome news that CWP Renewables and Bango Wind Farm are once again hosting a Christmas Light Up competition in Yass, Boorowa and surrounds.

This year, CWP Renewables is partnering with Woolworths Yass to give away $1,700 worth of prizes.

Entries are open to all properties within the Yass Valley local government area, as well as the Boorowa district, which includes Frogmore, Murringo, Rye Park, Reid’s Flat and Rugby.

Yass Woolworths Manager, Brad Shaw, explained why he was pleased to be sponsoring the competition, “Each year there are so many displays that are deserving of recognition, from family homes to businesses and even farm gates. We want to help shine a light on the local community’s efforts to share some festive cheer and give them the chance to not only win bragging rights, but great prizes too”.

There will be five judged categories:

1. Best lit house/residence
2. Best commercial/non-residential/premises
3. Best novelty display
4. Best renewable energy display
5. Best rural property.

Entries close on Friday 25 November, with winners to be announced on 9 December on Bango Wind Farm’s Facebook page.

Participants should ensure that all lights, animations and decorations are in place and activated from 7:00 to 9:30 pm on the judging nights, which will take place on 5 – 7 December.

Printed entry forms are available at the Yass Library, Yass Visitor Information Centre, Boorowa Library, Old Courthouse Arts and Crafts Centre and Boorowa Community Op Shop. The online entry form is available on CWP Renewables’ website: https://cwprenewables.com/xmas-bwf
