Future Women NSW Rural Scholarship

Last week it was announced that Carolina Merriman, Chair of NSW Farmers Yass Branch and member of the Yass Economic and Development Committee, was one of 24 women across regional NSW who has been awarded a prestigious Future Women NSW Rural Scholarship.

Carolina was nominated for the Scholarship by friends and colleagues. The one-year scholarships, which are each valued at $5,500, started with the winners attending the Future Women Leadership Summit in Sydney on the 9th and 10th of March 2021. Over the course of the year, recipients of the digitally-led scholarship will participate in various other networking, mentoring and learning content and opportunities.

Carolina explained that she was very humbled and grateful to be nominated for the Scholarship. Having just returned from the Summit, Carolina said that “Words cannot express the uplifting nature of the event and how well-organised it was. Exceptional guest speakers were there who highlighted true issues such as domestic violence and shared their commitment to provide solutions. The speakers encouraged women to speak – we all have fabulous stories to tell”.

Carolina is hoping that the Scholarship will afford her the opportunity to grow her voice, develop her networks, and open doors. She would like to see women take up more leadership roles in rural communities.

Carolina was impressed by the fact that not only do Scholarship winners get to join the vibrant Future Women community, but all 423 women who entered also receive a complimentary one-year Gold membership, which gives them access to Future Proof, a nine-part career development webinar series, plus other benefits.

In terms of women who might consider applying for the Scholarship next year, Carolina said “I encourage regional women of any age and all backgrounds to apply. The opportunity you get to develop connections and networks are outstanding. There are so many women involved who genuinely want to help you reach your goals”.
