Australia Day 2023 in the Yass Valley

On Australia Day we celebrate all the things we love about Australia: sense of fair go, lifestyle, democracy, the freedoms we enjoy, but especially our people.

Australia Day is about acknowledging the contribution every Australian makes to the country: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have been here for more than 65,000 years, those who have lived here for generations, and those who have recently come from all corners of the globe to call our country home.

The marking of 26th January is an important date in Australia’s history and has changed over time: starting as a celebration for emancipated convicts and evolving into what is now a celebration of Australia that reflects the nation’s diverse people.

You can celebrate those who make our community a great place to live, and welcome our new citizens, by attending the Yass Valley Australia Day Ceremony and Family Fun Day in Riverbank Park, Yass.

• From 8:30am there will be a complimentary barbeque breakfast by Yass Rotary.
• From 9am you will learn about our new citizens and award winners and meet the Australia Day Ambassador.
• From 10am – 2pm you can participate in family fun, with inflatables, face painting, food trucks and live music.
• Then you can finish off your Australia Day with free entry to Yass and Binalong Pools.
