A new program has been launched in NSW, which is designed to turbo-charge the careers of aspiring graduates and current teachers who want to become a principal within 10 years.

The FASTstream program, beginning in Term 1 2022, aims to attract high-quality teaching staff to regional NSW and other hard-to-staff parts of the state.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said “This is a great opportunity for our teachers to fast track their careers. We want the best teachers to have the opportunity to thrive in their career and this is what FASTstream is aimed at doing. This opportunity sends a clear message - teaching is an incredible career choice, and we want to support our great teachers to reach the very highest levels.”

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the FASTstream program will incentivise up-and-coming teachers and graduates by preparing participants for principal roles in up to 10 years, fast tracking the existing average of 20 years.

FASTstream participants will be given a permanent teaching position and undertake placements that offer rewarding teaching and leadership experiences across a range of schools, including at least one placement in a regional area. Participants will also receive mentoring and coaching from already excelling public school leaders and access to the suite of evidence-informed leadership programs available through the School Leadership Institute.
