Just 54 kms from Yass, up the Lachlan Valley Way, lies the town of Boorowa. Beneath the quiet exterior there’s a lot of work going on preparing for the 2022 Boorowa Irish Woolfest, which is being held on Sunday 2nd October.

Due to COVID there’s been a two-year Woolfest hiatus, but that is all due to change this year. In addition to the traditional “Running of the Sheep” down the main street, there’s a street parade, beanie and beret competition, boutique market stalls, a colouring competition for children, and the prestigious Art Show and Sale.

The Art Show and Sale has traditionally been known as the St John’s Art Show run by the ladies from the Anglican Church in Boorowa. This year the administration of the Art Show has been transferred to a sub-committee of the Woolfest Committee headed by Susan Corcoran. All sale proceeds raise money for the two schools in Boorowa, the Boorowa Central School and St Joseph’s Primary School.

Key dates for the Art Show and Sale are as follows:

  • Friday 16th September: Entries close
  • Wednesday 29th September: Paintings to be delivered to The Old Court House, Marsden Street, Boorowa
  • Saturday 1st October: Exhibition opens 10am-4pm
  • Sunday 2nd October: Exhibition open 10am-4pm
  • Monday 3rd October: Artworks to be collected between 12 noon-2pm.
