And The Winner Is Where the Wild Things Are

Community consultation about the new Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park, Yass closed on 10th November 2021, and last week Council announced that ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ was the most popular design by 54 per cent.

This concept design features a flying fox, a sky tower with climbing nets and giant spiral slide, a climbing slope with ropes and nets, a spinning net and climber, a springer, an activity tower for infants, a double swing, a basket swing, a cubby house and stepping logs.

The community asked Council to remove the springer and spinning net and climber and add an embankment slide, carousel and hamster wheel. Council will consider these alternatives, as well as shade sails and fencing, when developing the detailed design with consultant, Group GSA. The community also suggested adding water play to the park, however, this will not be considered due to the significant cost involved.

Yass Valley Mayor Rowena Abbey thanked everyone who voted and provided feedback during the consultation period, saying “This important feedback ensures we are able to create a fantastic meeting place for the community and visitors to Yass Valley, and an exciting play space for children and teenagers.

“We can’t wait to share the final design with the community soon. We hope to begin construction mid-2022 and complete the Adventure Playspace by Christmas 2022.” The Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park will receive $1,784,700 in funding through the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program. The NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program is a NSW Government initiative that is investing up to $250 million to fund new and improved, high-quality public open spaces.
